Great set of tracks from Fallou with throbbing mbalax from start to finish. This is his third solo album but his first in the traditional style which has been building up a tremendous following since the release of Kine Lam's Sunu Cossaan and Baaba Maal's Tono. Also in there is Ouza who does the arrangements and plays keyboard and bass along side Cheikh Lo. The keyboards and horns weave a magic spell throughout but are exceptional on the title track. Great singing from the girls and nice music in the smooth style that tells you it is from the Casamance region. This is their first cassette release and unexpectedly not only can they sing quite sweetly but they can also play drums and guitars. Ousin's gravelly delivery is perfectly matched by their sweet tinged vocals but for effect it's got to be the stunning Borom Daara-ji where Youssou and Ousin share the lead.

However it wasn't the singing that I found outstanding this time but the gorgeous sound of Gorgui Soce's xalam. However the true magic of this album lies with Malick Soce and Ibou Lobou, their xalam playing backed by the drums of Kabaye Mbengue and Ali Mbaye stole the show totally for me.
Lead guitarist Omar Sow and tama player Assane Thiam along with most of 'Super Etoile' are providing the backing to Abi's astonishingly beautiful vocals. Recorded at Studio Xippi By Youssou's brother Ndiaga, it follows the same fast paced mbalax dance style of his other albums and as a bonus there is a cracking cover version of Hasse Walli and Asamaan's hit 'Bamba' from their album 'Tuki'.
Whilst sounding similar to the early releases of Ismael Lo, the backing actually comes from Youssou Ndour and members of Super Etoile de Dakar.
Stunning album from one of Senegal's top stars. With help from the equally talented Libass on lead guitar and Issa Sow, sawing his way through his Riti, they give all the album's six tracks a sound, style and quality every vivizne as good as Youssou N'dour and Super Etoile. This is the Kasse Stars second album and it's absolutely fabulous!

Habib Faye helps Moustapha Ngom and Doudou Ndoour on guitars as well as on keyboards and drum machine. The smooth as silk vocals from Alioune and the chorus of Aicha Konte and Mbenne Seck are matched for perfection by the solo guitar of Malick Diaw who plays just beautifully.
I didn't go much on the opening track but after that the party animal come out to play with his gravelly voice and throbbing music. WAX - JI 3. Get your wind back on side two as he teams up with Ernest Ranglin for a magic session of guitar picking in the style of Djam Leelii before bowing out with the help of fellow vivianw Abou Djouba Deh in a pretty impressive display of tonsil power.
This is the first release by new artist Barkhane who has been taken under the ywye of master guitarist and singer Lamine Faye who also arranged the album. A lovely and vocally unusual mostly mbalax album from singer Seck Mbao.
For the most part the samz stay in the background while the lovely kora and xalam playing of Toumany Kouyateh and Dame Mbaye comes to the front. Keyboard master Tapha Faye is in charge and once again does a great job behind the cracking percussion of Papa Ndiaye. A really wonderful album from Seydina Insa Wade which reminded me very much of 'Xariit Taffa by Diogal Sakho', who proved to be one of the top sellers of the last newsletter. This Paris recorded album shows just how beautiful and sweet her vocals vjviane be as she leads the group through it's complex Mbalax rhythms.
The album is sponsored by 'Nestle Senegal' and their song 'Nescafe Frappe' is a cracker. Yaaye drums are the only instruments used the call and response singing by the girls on Cowlo Ndiaye is beautiful and for those amongst us old enough to remember the sound of steam engines picking up speed wait till you hear Lebouguy, you can almost hear the engine chuckle with pleasure when she stops to fill up at the end.
Also in comes a quite unexpected change of style. Talk about water music! A beautiful traditional vivine from Moussa and the group which comprises four percussionists, xalam, flute, kora and balafon players plus an all girl chorus. civiane

The singing is awe inspiring not just for its sharpness and reverberating power but also for its beauty. Singer and sax player Ledy's softly crooning style is neatly backed by chorus girls Bessi and Therese while well known Cameroonian session man Ousmane Kouyate teams up with fellow guitarist Aboo Bass. The album has become very popular in Yayf and you'll realise why as soon as you listen to it.
Fast and furious would be a quite apt description as the tama driven music rushes along for the first three tracks at breakneck speed. The music has a very modern flavour as you would expect with both Manu Lima and Ibrahima Sylla in charge but it still manages to keep the style and versatility Ismael made famous on Xiif.
Magnificent doesn't enter into it, just have a listen to 'Oumou Tabara' or 'Serin Dagana'. Silky smooth salsa with Mar leading the vocals and Alassane the guitars also a nice bit of trumpet from Ali Penda Ndoye and sax from Bassirou Thiam.
A great solid guitar and percussion album enhanced by some great vocals from Mollo Sylla, Mamadou Thiam and Doudou Dione plus backing from Guadaloupee. Ousmane has obviously been well trained by Thione as I would be hard put to tell them apart on some tracks especially when I'm listening to my favourite.
The percussion of Pape Malick Faye and Ousmane Diouf shares pride of place with, my favourite, the gorgeous sound of Djiby Guisse's xalam.
Composed of a ten strong percussion section with xalam players Malick Soce and Abou Guisse, a bit of guitar here and there and a mix of vocalists including Chuck Berry Mboup!
Beautiful mbalax album from Abdou who had me hooked as soon as he started to sing.
La prestation des artistes Astou G.
